Job Description

About the position

Your canvas? The Atlanta community. When it comes to community impact, you think big and have a knack for building win-win partnerships. Friends joke that your middle name must be “get it done”. Pair that with your ability to communicate with just about anyone, and we’re definitely impressed. Fundraising, partnerships, and campaigns… are just a few of the many skills in your proverbial wheelhouse.

* Is your superpower making fundraising fun?

* Are you a trusted leader and with strong ties to the Atlanta community?

* Are you a life-long volunteer who’s not afraid to get your hands dirty?

* Can you play nice with both Salesforce and real humans?

As the Director of Development, you will drive the development and execution of all funding-related components of the strategic plan. In partnership with the President & CEO, you will design a comprehensive fundraising plan that results in philanthropic and earned revenue of $4+ million annually. As a growth-oriented organization, it is expected that the amount of money raised each year will increase as you systematically and effectively strengthen our fundraising capacity.

You will:

  • Lead a 3-person Development team

  • Lead the stewardship and cultivation of foundation relationships while supervising the submission of 60+ grants annually

  • Drive sponsorship efforts for Hands On Atlanta’s flagship events, specifically Hands On Atlanta Week and MLK Day of Service

  • Direct individual giving campaigns and steward major donors

  • Meticulously manage and maintain donor lists, pipelines, and records in Salesforce to ensure accuracy and effective fundraising

  • Help lead the governing and advisory board meetings and partner closely with the Board fundraising committee

Preferred Experience

You might describe yourself like this…

You’re a relationship builder and love the details. As far as you are concerned, anything worth doing is worth doing right. You stay focused and nothing falls through the cracks on your watch. You volunteer for new challenges without waiting to be asked. You’re going to take ownership of the time you spend with us and truly make a difference.

You have

  • 8+ years nonprofit leadership and fundraising experience

  • Experience supervising a diverse, high-performing team of full-time staff, contractors, Board members and volunteers

  • Experience securing major funding commitments and writing grants (six-figure and multi-year)

  • Experience working with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) professionals and fortune 500 companies

  • Strong network and experience working in the Atlanta community

  • Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships

  • Experience managing a donor database with accuracy and analyzing donor trends (Salesforce experience a plus)

  • Experience representing an organization at external meetings, community events and speaking engagements

  • Possess a professional and resourceful style; ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

  • The ability to work both independently, without close supervision, and collaboratively at varying levels of seniority within and outside of Hands On Atlanta

  • High energy and passion for Hands On Atlanta’s mission - a commitment to community service and volunteerism
